This Beyond The Call Of Duty Award is based on Ariel's unyielding effort to identify a suspect who committed an armed robbery at Kay Jewelers on August 30, 2018.

At 2:27 p.m., a suspect walked in to Kay Jewelers disguised with a ball cap pulled low on his brow and dark sunglasses. He walked to over to a clerk, handed him a bag, and said, "Fill it." When the clerk did not immediately respond, because he didn't understand, The suspect pointed a .45 caliber handgun at him. After filling the bag with expensive jewelry, the clerk was ordered to the floor, after which, the suspect fled.

Multiple units responded to search the area, but the suspect was able to escape. The quality of the video from Kay's was not good. In most cases, the suspect would have gotten away with the robbery, but in this case, Ariel was assigned to Assembly Row (AR).

Ariel took it upon himself to contact the security manager on-duty at AR. This person assisted Ariel in tracking the suspect's movement through the AR Complex. Ariel was able to track the suspect back twenty minutes in time where he saw him enter T.J. Maxx. T.J. Maxx captured surveillance footage of the suspect without his disguise. In addition to back-tracking the suspect's movements, Ariel tracked him forward in time to his escape on the MBTA.

With the clear photo of the suspect, his route of escape on the MBTA, the distribution of our crime bulletin to regional partners, and the media putting out the photos of the suspect, it did not take long for a positive ID.

A warrant was served on the suspect where evidence of the robbery was recovered. Thanks to Ariel's dogged-work, and keen instincts, a dangerous individual will go back to serving the rest of his life behind bars.

For this, Ariel is most deserving of the Department's Beyond The Call Of Duty Award. Great job, Ariel.
