Somerville Police Department - Application to U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FY2018 Local Solicitation Program.
The City of Somerville is eligible for a direct award of $17,797 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant (JAG) FY2018 Local Solicitation from the Office of Justice Programs of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The award was determined by a formula based on population and violent crime statistics. Eligibility for this grant was determined by Uniform Crime Report data that Somerville has submitted to the FBI. The grant may be used over a two-year period. In accordance with the grant requirements, the application must be made public and an opportunity to comment on the application must be provided to citizens and neighborhood or community-based organizations, to the extent applicable law and established procedure makes such an opportunity available.
Funding from the Byrne JAG grant can be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice to local law enforcement agencies. Somerville Police Department has submitted an application requesting funding to support their expansion of Somerville's Participation in COBRA (Cops on Bikes for Regional Assistance) project.
