Plant Thefts
During the months of May and June, the Somerville Police received multiple reports of larceny of plants from various locations around the Winter Hill area. It was suspected by property owners that the thief would strike at night and would pull plants out of the ground from home gardens. Plants were taken from the front and backyards along with ceramic and plastic planters. These incidents occurred several times with no discernible pattern resulting in many residents being victimized.
With the help of surveillance video, Detectives Faria, Jones, and the SPD Crime Analysis Unit, were able to identify the thief. After locating and speaking to the suspect, and in the vein of Restorative Justice, the suspect wrote an apology and agreed to make restitution to all the victims in lieu of prosecution. A great job by detectives.
