On Saturday, October 23rd, at approximately 9:00 AM, Somerville Police & Fire responded to Oxford St for a medical related incident.  Subsequently, two residents were subsequently transported to an area hospital for ingesting an unknown substance.

While at the scene, police observed what they believed was a clandestine lab designed for the production of crystal methamphetamine.  This hazard required a response from the Cambridge Fire Department Hazardous Material Unit, Cambridge Fire Department’s Bomb Investigation Unit and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Special Response Team, all who specialize in the decontamination and making safe the dangerous chemicals used to produce crystal methamphetamine. The scene was secured so not to be a threat to the immediate neighborhood.

Police were on scene for ten hours during which time they prepared and executed a search warrant at the premises.  This is an ongoing investigation and any resident with information regarding Oxford Street is urged to contact the Somerville Police Department at 617.625.1600, ext #7234.
