The following is a summary of the details related to this incident.

                On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, I, Officer David Ruf, was in full-uniform and assigned to marked cruiser East-4, for the Somerville Police Department. At approximately 7:07 A.M., Officer N. Moreira (East-1) and I were dispatched to 180 Somerville Ave (Target) for a larceny.

                While enroute to the call, Somerville dispatch informed units that two males were walking down Medford Street carrying the TVs heading towards Cambridge. I arrived on Medford Street and observed two male parties, later identified as Jama Abdirahman and Parbir Batra, carrying two Vizio TVs in green boxes. I ordered both individuals to stop, both dropped their TVs and Parbir fled back towards Somerville Ave. Jama slowly walked back towards Somerville Ave and I was able to place him in custody at the intersection of Somerville Ave and Medford Street. Officer N. Moreira was able to locate Parbir a short distance away hiding in a construction yard. A search of Parbir yielded a small pair of cutters that would be consistent with cutting security tags off of items.

                I then spoke with Target LP (loss prevention), XXXX, who stated the following; Jama and Parbir came into the store and loaded up a cart with two Vizio TVs valued at $361.23 total. They then walked out the front of the store and towards Medford Street. The cart then locked and the suspects then had to carry the TVs on Medford Street and that is when I came in contact with them.

                Jama is being charged with the following;

M.G.L. c266 / §30 LARCENY UNDER $1200

                Parbir is being charged with the following;

M.G.L. c266 / §30 LARCENY UNDER $1200

M.G.L. c266 / §49 BURGLARIOUS INSTRUMENT, POSSESS

                Both parties were transported by Unit #200, Officer Ramirez, to the Somerville Police Headquarters where he was booked by Sgt. Berrouet in the usual manner.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer David Ruf #334

Somerville Police Department
