Additional Bicyclists Information
Massachusetts law requires any person 16 years old or younger riding a bicycle to wear a helmet. Helmets are recommended for all bicyclists. Wearing a bicycle helmet is the most effective way to protect against a head injury in an accident.
A bicycle race may be held on any public road or street in the Commonwealth if done in cooperation with a recognized bicycle organization and with approval from the Police Department before the race is held.
Special bike regulations for races can be established with an agreement between a bicycle organization and the police.
If you would like to report a violation that endangers bicyclists safety, call the Somerville Police Department at 617-625-1600. It is helpful if you can identify the exact locations using streets, addresses or intersections, along with a description of the offending vehicle.

If your bicycle is ever stolen or vandalized, file a police report with a police officer. You may dial 617-625-1600 Ext. 7254. Depending on the incident, you may be asked to come into the police station to finish the report.
